Two Green Thumbs Garden Club
The Two Green Thumbs Garden Club is entering its 20th year as an active club that helps promote gardening throughout the town of Knightdale. Currently, we meet on the second Monday of each month (Sept-May) at 6:30 pm at Knightdale Baptist Church, located at 15 Main St., in the heart of downtown Knightdale. Each month brings a new garden topic, which often includes a guest speaker. Past programs have included growing herbs, container gardening, hummingbirds, making wreaths, flower arrangements, vegetable gardening, and more.
Our garden club is involved with many current projects around Knightdale. We maintain multiple flower beds throughout the town. There are also gardens at Rex Wellness and the East Regional Library that are sponsored or maintained by members of Two Green Thumbs , as well as a Bluebird trail along the East Regional Library Environmental Park Trail.
Along with the flower beds that we maintain, our club sponsors the Veteran's Day Tribute each year at the Veteran's Memorial at Knightdale Station Park. This is a special day where we honor those who have served and say thank-you to them for their service. There is a special wreath-laying ceremony each year, along with a flower-laying tribute at the conclusion of the service. Located at the Memorial are both Blue Star and Gold Star Memorial Placques. The Gold Star is the first in North Carolina.
Two Green Thumbs actively encourages young people to take an interest in gardening. We are a sponsor of the Junior Two Green Thumbs Garden Club at Knightdale Elementary School, and members from our garden club lead the programs. Programs for this group are generally very hands-on and the kids seem to enjoy learning about nature.
Our main fundraiser is the annual spring plant sale that features perennials grown by garden club members. Other past fundraisers have included a fall plant sale, a silent auction, and car wash ticket sales.
We invite you to come out and join us in our gardening endeavors. You will meet gardening friends who don't mind digging in the dirt and getting their clothes a little messy. Don't worry if you have not planted anything before, or think you have a “black” thumb—we garden at all levels!
